Cold Hard Winter

It's been a cold hard winter with a cold hard wind

Been times I've had to question, if I'd see it to the end

No one close to check on me, no one really cares

About a ragged man in ragged clothes, livin' on his own

So it goes

I could have been a mountain man, but time for that has passed

Now it's blacktop highways and a life that goes to fast

I left it all behind, for the mountains and this ridge

Sometimes I sing and listen to, the echos comin' back again

I walk to church on Sundays, I sit outside and pray

I wore out all my good clothes, I can't hear what they say

They know I sing and pray out here, but no one really cares

About a ragged man in ragged clothes, livin' on his own

So it goes

Poets write their mountain poems, and leave their trash behind

The loggers rip the mountains down, and no one seems to mind

Rich men build their homes up here, because they like the view

The old life's slowly dying, people only want the new

So it goes

I'm runnin' out of winters, I'm runnin' out of wind

Not sure if I'll make it, if I'll see spring again

I live here in this cabin, and no one really cares

About a ragged man in ragged clothes, livin' on his own

So it goes

About a ragged man in ragged clothes, livin' on his own

So it goes
